Outlift is a pre-workout supplement that’s designed to be an “all-in-one formula supporting size & strength gains”. It’s made by Nutrex and comes in two flavors – Blue Raspberry and Fruit Punch.

Claimed to promote:

You get 20 servings of Outlift in containers priced at $38.60. It’s marketed as a “clinically dosed” product, so lets see whether its ingredients and doses live up to this claim.

Founded in 2002, Nutrex has become an established name in the supplements industry. They take pride on their big office and “cutting-edge products”, as well as being the first company to release liquid capsules.

The Ingredients and How They Work

Our first impressions of this product are that some ingredients are dosed well, while others have been doses too highly. The L-Citrulline content in Outlift is great, but the Caffeine is too high for one serving (we’ll expand on this below).

L-Citrulline 

Nutrex have started off strong by including this ingredient in Outlift. L-Citrulline is one of the best nutrients to have in a pre-workout, as it turns into L-Arginine in your kidneys. L-Arginine is important for boosting your nitric oxide levels, which in turn expands your blood vessels (vasodilation), resulting in great muscle pumps during your workout.

But you might be thinking, why not take L-Arginine directly? This is because L-Arginine has a very poor absorption rate and shown to not actually have an effect on raising your body’s L-Arginine levels.

The good news is that L-Citrulline has a great absorption rate, so you’ll be sure to experience intense muscle pumps with servings between 5,000mg-8,000mg (its optimal levels). Outlift contains 8,000mg, so it’ll be effect in delivering this benefit.

It’s important to look for a pre-workout containing 5,000mg-8,000mg of L-Citrulline to get the best value for your money and results.

Beta-Alanine 

Nutrex should’ve left this ingredient out of Outlift. Although Beta-Alanine is proven to improve your muscular endurance and anaerobic running capacity, it comes with the risk of paresthesia in doses over 0.8g-1g – Outlift contains 3.2g, so you’re almost certain to experience paresthesia.

Paresthesia is the tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities – it’s not life threatening, but it’s enough to ruin your workout and slow your progress in the gym.

We recommend staying away from products containing Beta-Alanine, to avoid paresthesia.

Creatine Monohydrate 

This is another great product to have in a pre-workout. Creatine Monohydrate is tried-and-tested to be effective in boosting your strength and endurance in the gym.

Nutrex have lived up to their claims of providing “clinical doses” with this ingredient – there is an optimal amount of Creatine Monohydrate in Outlift.

You’ll be sure to experience improved strength and endurance with this pre-workout, and we recommend searching for a pre-workout containing Creatine Monohydrate to get an effective product.

BCAA’s (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine) 

Nutrex have included all three Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) in Outlift, which has shown to encourage protein synthesis – meaning it promotes muscle growth.

It’s not vital in a pre-workout, but there aren’t any negative in including it.

However, an ingredient such as Beetroot Extract would’ve been more beneficial in this pre-workout – Beetroot Extract contains a high amounts of nitrates, which boosts your nitrix oxide levels and delivers great muscle pumps.

Taurine

This is an organic acid that contains sulfur. It’s most commonly used for it’s ability to reduce cramping in doses of 500mg-2,000mg.

Nutrex have done a good job by dosing this ingredient perfectly – while it’s not key to a pre-workout, there is no negatived in consuming it.

Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the safest and most effective nutrients out there. It’s used in countless products worldwide, such as tea and coffee and is proven to improve your strength, endurance, and mental function (memory and reaction time).

But it can cause side effects when taken in a large dose. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for caffeine is set at 400mg – Outlift contains 350mg per serving (which is a large dose), meaning you’re at risk of suffering from side effects like jitters, energy crashes, and insomnia when using Outlift.

We recommend that you search for a pre-workout with a caffeine dose of 15-200mg – so you experience the benefits without any unwanted side effects.

L-Tyrosine

This is an amino acid that can reduce stress levels and improve mental function (memory and reaction time), as it’s used to produce noradrenaline and dopamine.

But it’s not key to a pre-workout supplement and is more suited to a Nootropic product.

Nutrex should’ve replaced this ingredient with something more beneficial in a pre-workout – such as L-Theanine, which works in synergy to form a ‘smart caffeine’, giving you heightened benefits of caffeine without the risk of side effects.

Black Pepper Extract

Everyone knows what Black Pepper is – it’s used to season food around the world on a daily basis. But you might not be aware of the benefits it can provide in a supplement.

Black Pepper Extract improved the absorption rate of every other ingredient that it’s consumed with – meaning it can improve the overall effectiveness of a product.

Side Effects

There are some ingredients in this pre-workout that can cause side effects, such as Beta-Alanine. Nutrex have even overdosed the caffeine in Outlift, meaning you could experience jitters, energy crashes, and insomnia.

There’s no denying that Nutrex have conducted some research into what makes a top quality pre-workout when formulating Outlift – they’ve dosed both L-Citrulline and Creatine Monohydrate perfectly to provide you their full benefits.

However, they’ve made mistakes on other ingredients – Nutrex should’ve left out Beta-Alanine (causes paresthesia, a tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities) and reduced the dose of caffeine to 150-200mg. ]

We recommend that you search for a pre-workout that contains other key nutrients for a pre-workout – such as L-Theanine (works in synergy with caffeine to form a ‘smart caffeine’, which delivers enhanced benefits of caffeine without the risk of side effects) and Beetroot Extract (promotes muscle pumps).
