USN are a UK-based sports nutrition company that produce a wide range of products; from protein shakes to pre-workout supplements such as B4 Burn.
As we mentioned, USN have jumped on the band-wagon of creating female-specific products; personally, we don’t agree that females need their ‘own’ products, and we’ve seen women use unisex products fine without any problems.
But since this is a supplement review site, we’re keen to see whether B4 Burn really is more beneficial for women than unisex products.
The Ingredients and How They Work
The main thing we’re interested in seeing, is whether B4 Burn contains any ingredients that are more beneficial for women. If not, then we don’t see the need to have aimed it towards women.
From first flance, we can’t see any evidence that suggests it’ll be more useful for females. Not only that, as you only consume 1 serving per day of B4 Burn, the thermogenic ingredients inside this pre-workout isn’t likely to take effect.
As a result, we always recommend that you look at fat burner supplements, if your main aim is to lose weight. But you’re here to learn about B4 Burn, so we’ll examine each ingredient for you below.

The first ingredient on this list, taurine is believed by some to increase your energy levels. However, it hasn’t shown to offer this benefit in any study.
So why do people think this? Answer: Because taurine can be found inside energy drinks.
But that doesn’t mean it’s useless; taurine can help reduce cramping while you exercise. As a result, we don’t consider Taurine to be a key addition to any pre-workout supplement, but it can be useful.
Green Coffee Bean Extract
In case you’re unaware, green coffee beans are basically just unroasted coffee beans. But they’re actually one of the most effective thermogenic nutrients available; it’s able to boost your metabolism due to containing chlorogenic acid, which has shown to promote fat loss.
As a result, we always look out for green coffee bean extract in fat burner supplements. However, it’s important to remember that you’ll only be consuming 1 daily serving of B4 Burn as it’s a pre-workout (and that’s if you actually do take this everyday).
It’s much more reliable to consume this in a fat burner supplement, as it’ll offer 3-4 capsule servings per day; this has shown to be the optimal amount of servings to help you lose weight.
We said that we’d look out for ingredients that are tailored for women. Well, we believe that betaine is the exact opposite; females won’t like this, as betaine has shown to cause your body odor to smell fishy.
If that’s not enough to putt you off this ingredient…studies have shown that it offers no benefits to help you lose fat or improve your workouts.
Smart Caffeine Combo
These ingredients are the best in B4 Burn, and we’re actually quite impressed that USN have added this in; this shows that they’ve at least done some research while formulating this pre workout.
In a nutshell, when caffeine and l-theanine are consumed together, they form what’s known as a ‘smart caffeine’. This enhances the benefits of caffeine, while keeping you calm and away from jitters.
In terms of caffeine dosage, USN have added 200mg, which will offer energy boosts without going over-the-top. We always recommend that you consume under 200mg caffeine at one time, so this is on the ‘border’ of being safe.
It looks like USN have made Astragin a key component of B4 Burn, as it’s featured on the container of this product. However, we’re not convinced by this ingredient.
Basically, Astragin is a patented nutrient that’s believed to increase the absorption rate other other ingredients it’s consumed with; on their website, they claim that this is beneficial when consumed alongside creatine, citrulline, arginine and beta-alanine, which is strange as B4 Burn doesn’t contain any of these nutrients…
Anyway, this isn’t even a main benefit. In fact, it’s definitely not worth advertising this on the front of a supplement container; increasing the absorption rate of supplements is good, but this is more of a ‘bonus’ than a key benefit.
Ultimately, black pepper extract has shown to do the exact same thing, for much cheaper.
Teacrine is a stimulant that’s similar to caffeine; it’s shown to raise your energy levels and keep you alert.
However, this is a problem, as B4 Burn already contains caffeine. In a nutshell, consuming high dosages of stimulants will lead to side effects like jitters and energy crashes.
As a result, we recommend only consuming supplements containing 1 stimulant (with our preference being caffeine, as it’s proven to be safe and effective – more so than teacrine).
Bitter Orange Extract
This is by far the worst ingredient inside B4 Burn. Bitter orange extract has been commonly reported to cause side effects, which is why it’s been banned in the UK among other countries.
In fact, we believe that it’s only a matter of time before bitter orange extract is banned in the US too.
So why is it added into supplements? Answer: it’s shown to promote fat loss.
It’s obvious that USN have placed a big emphasis on trying to create a product that’s effective at helping you lose weight with B4 Burn. However, if you do manage to lose weight while taking B4 Burn, it’ll be along with numerous side effects.

The main side effect that concerns us with B4 Burn is the potential jitters; if you’ve ever drank too much coffee before, then you know the feeling.
Well, it’s caused by consuming high dosages of caffeine, and as B4 Burn contains both caffeine anhydrous and teacrine – you’re at real risk here.
Secondly, bitter orange extract has been commonly reported to cause side effects, so we always recommend that you avoid this ingredient. Losing weight is a great thing, but it’s not worth putting your health at risk for.
Finally, the last side effect isn’t serious, but it’s definitely not enjoyable. As we’ve already mentioned, betaine has shown to cause fishy body odor…something we personally try to avoid.

After examining the ingredients inside B4 Burn, we don’t believe there’s any reason for this to be marketed specifically to women. As a result, USN have simply added some pink to the container of this pre-workout/fat burner supplement, and told women it’s better for them to make sales.
Remember that most supplements aren’t gender orientated; we find that the best products are unisex, which makes sense as there aren’t any nutrients that specifically benefit men or women more than the other.
Even testosterone boosters benefit women, so this should illustrate our point. Anyway, getting back-on-track, if your main goal is to lose weight, then a fat burner will be better tailored to this.
